The War Horse Project is an equine-assisted psychotherapy program intended for Canadian Forces members, Veterans, First Responders and Corrections Officers who have been adversely affected by trauma. This program has provided lasting and measurable benefits not achieved with conventional therapies alone.

The healing power of horses is the subject of a documentary to be screened Wednesday night as part of a “Thinking Globally, Created Locally” film night at the Mayfair Theatre.

Secret War is a 14-minute documentary by four Carleton University journalism students about the War Horse Project, a therapy program in Pembroke that uses the human-horse bond to help Afghan war veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. Charity BBQ nets $500.00 for Hope Reins Equine Assisted Therapy Program and the War Horse Project!

Back in the warmer days of this past summer, Giant Tiger Pembroke hosted a Charity BBQ for the awesome people at Hope Reins of Pembroke & Killaloe. They cooked up the hot dogs and served up the cold drinks that netted them the proceeds of $500.00 on a very warm and sunny Friday August 1st. Many thanks to all our patrons and downtown neighbours who came out to enjoy a BBQ Lunch and support this great cause.
